The Solcon SOLSTART 17 400-S is a compact analogue soft starter rated 17 A full-load current, labelled for 400 V, 50/60 Hz three-phase mains. It limits inrush current and mechanical shock when starting a squirrel-cage induction motor and can also ramp the motor down gently. Start and stop come from a dry (voltage-free) contact. For 230 V supplies the matching model is the SOLSTART 17 230-S.
Which motors can the SOLSTART 17 400-S start?
Three-phase, three-wire squirrel-cage induction motors whose nameplate full-load current is 17 A or less, on a 400 V supply. Solcon rates the starter for 3.5 times rated current for 5 seconds at 40 °C and up to 4 starts per hour at full rating; very frequent starting has to be sized separately.
How is it set up?
Three front dials set the initial voltage (10 to 80 %), ramp-up time (0.5 to 5 s) and ramp-down time (0.5 to 5 s). Solcon's start-up procedure begins at about 40 % initial voltage and 3 s ramp-up, then adjusts until the motor turns right after the start signal. On, Ramp and Run LEDs show the state, and built-in bypass relays carry the current once the ramp is complete.

No. This unit is labelled for 400 V mains. The 230 V version is the SOLSTART 17 230-S.
What is the maximum motor current?
17 A full-load current, as shown on the label. Select by the motor's nameplate FLA.
How is the starter controlled?
By a voltage-free contact across the control terminals: closed to start, open to stop. No voltage may be applied to these terminals.
Can I use it with power factor correction capacitors?
Not on the motor side. Solcon states capacitors must be installed on the line side, never on the starter's load side.
