What can the JAI CV-A50 do?
It is a compact analog machine vision camera with a 1/2 inch CCD and composite video out on a BNC. JAI gave it no DIP switches. Gain, shutter and trigger modes are set over RS-232C from a PC. Body size is 29 x 44 x 66 mm, about 150 g, 1.5 W.
Which lenses come on the cameras?
Both lenses carry RICOH and SCHNEIDER-KREUZNACH on the front ring. The one photographed close up reads 6mm 1:1.2, made in Germany, with an aperture ring from 1.2 to 16 and C (closed). The other lens is marked Made in Vietnam, and its focal length is not readable in the photos. Both have a front ring marked 40.5.
How do I power and connect it?
The back panel has three connections: VIDEO OUT (BNC), DC IN/SYNC (12-pin Hirose) and TRIGGER (6-pin Hirose), plus a GAIN pot. Feed 12 V DC on the 12-pin connector. The 6-pin also carries the RS-232C lines for setup.

Questions about this part
Is the CV-A50 a color camera?
No. It is monochrome, with a 1/2 inch interline CCD.
What voltage does the JAI CV-A50 need?
12 V DC, per the label on the camera. JAI lists the draw as 1.5 W.
What is a C-mount lens?
A screw-thread lens mount, 1 inch diameter with 32 threads per inch, used on most industrial and CCTV cameras. The Ricoh lenses on these cameras are C-mount and can be swapped for any other C-mount lens.
Is the 6mm a wide angle on a 1/2 inch sensor?
Yes. On a 6.4 x 4.8 mm sensor a 6 mm lens gives a wide field of view, useful at short working distances.
Do I need software to set it up?
Only to change settings. Gain, shutter and trigger modes are set with ASCII commands over RS-232C at 9600 baud.
Are cables or a power supply included?
No. Only the two cameras with their lenses are shown.
