Texas Instruments ADS1255IDBT, 15 pieces in their moisture barrier bag. A 24-bit delta-sigma ADC, up to 30 kSPS, in a 20-pin SSOP. Two input channels, a PGA from 1 to 64 and an SPI-style serial port. Noise is very low: TI quotes up to 23 bits noise-free.

The bag came with 20. The distributor label reads "IC ADC 24BIT 2CH DIF INP SSOP-20" and someone crossed out 20 and wrote 15. The moisture label shows date code 1644 and MSL level 2. The chips are not shown out of the bag.

ADS1255 or ADS1256?

Same ADC core. The ADS1255 has 2 inputs in a 20-pin SSOP. The ADS1256 has 8 single-ended or 4 differential inputs in a 28-pin SSOP. If your board has the 20-pin footprint, you need the ADS1255.

What does IDBT stand for?

I is -40 to +85 °C. DB is the 20-pin SSOP. T is TI's small 250-piece reel. The 1000-piece reel is the ADS1255IDBR, same chip.

Bake before reflow?

Yes, plan on it. TI rates this part MSL 2 with a 1-year floor life. The bag has been opened and its expiration sticker reads 01/03/22, so bake per J-STD-033 before soldering.

How many chips do I get?

15. The bag held 20, and the label was changed by hand to 15.

Can I use the ADS1255 in place of an ADS1256?

Not on the same board. The ADS1256 is a 28-pin SSOP with 8 inputs; the ADS1255 is a 20-pin SSOP with 2.

How does a delta-sigma ADC work?

A fast 1-bit modulator oversamples the input and a digital filter averages the stream into 24-bit results. You trade speed for very low noise.

Which supplies does it need?

5 V analog and 1.8 V to 3.6 V digital.

What is the date code?

1644, printed on the bag label.

Do they need baking?

Yes. They are MSL 2 parts in an opened bag past its sticker date, so bake per J-STD-033 before reflow.
