The Shimadzu EI-3203MD is the TMP power unit, i.e. the controller, for Shimadzu's TMP-3203LM and TMP-3203LMC magnetically levitated turbomolecular pumps. Shimadzu rates it for single-phase 200–240 V AC, 1.8 kVA maximum, driving the pump at a rated frequency of 350 Hz (21,000 rpm), and the unit weighs 16 kg. Its nameplate reads "TMP POWER UNIT, MODEL EI-3203MD", made in Japan by Shimadzu Corporation, Hadano. Also searched as EI3203MD or EI-3203 MD.
Which pump does the EI-3203MD drive?
Shimadzu lists the EI-3203MD as the power unit of the TMP-3203LM series: the TMP-3203LM and the high-gas-flow TMP-3203LMC, 3200 L/s (N2) magnetic-levitation pumps. Shimadzu states that pump and power unit combinations can be changed without readjustment and that no backup battery is needed. Its later catalogue replaced this unit with the EI-D3203M.
What is on the front and rear panels?
The front carries alarm lamps for Motor, Mag. Bearing, Controller Temp., Pump Temp. and Power Failure, operation lamps for Rotation, Normal, Acceleration and Brake, Start / Stop / Reset keys and a Local / Remote switch. At the rear are the AC input, two 15 A fuses, the power switch, MOTOR and MAG. BRG. pump-cable connectors, a 9-pin D-sub interface port, a REMOTE connector and a cooling fan.
What condition is this unit in?
Used. The photos show an intact front membrane panel and clear nameplate, with normal handling marks on the case. An equipment tag above the fan reads "EC2 TP1 CONTROLLER"; the nameplate date code is '01-09.

Questions about this part
Which turbomolecular pump works with the Shimadzu EI-3203MD?
Shimadzu lists it as the power unit for the TMP-3203LM and TMP-3203LMC magnetically levitated pumps (3200 L/s for N2).
What power supply does the EI-3203MD need?
Single-phase 200–240 V AC ±10 %, 50/60 Hz, 1.8 kVA maximum, per Shimadzu's specification and the nameplate.
Does the EI-3203MD need a backup battery?
No. Shimadzu's specification lists the battery as not required.
Can I swap it onto a different TMP-3203 pump?
Shimadzu states that no readjustment is needed when the pump and power unit combination is changed within the series.
