Sipex SP491EEN-L/TR full duplex RS-485 transceivers, 2497 pieces on one reel. 5 V part, 10 Mbps, one driver and one receiver, 14-pin narrow SOIC. Date code 2139, made in Taiwan. The reel is in its moisture barrier bag with the Sipex label on it.

Why 2497 and not a full reel?

The Sipex label prints QTY 2500, which is the standard reel for this package. The stock label on the bag counts 2497. We sell it as 2497 pieces.

Sipex or MaxLinear SP491E?

Same part. Sipex made the SP491E; the line is now sold by MaxLinear, which still lists SP491EEN-L/TR as an active orderable number. Search it as SP491EEN, SP491EEN-L or SP491EEN L TR and you land on this chip.

What does EEN-L/TR mean?

The second E is the industrial range, -40 to 85 °C. N is the 14-pin NSOIC package. /TR is tape and reel. The commercial 0 to 70 °C version is the SP491ECN-L/TR.

Does it need baking before assembly?

The bag label marks it MSL level 2, which gives one year floor life at 30 °C/60% RH once the bag is open. MaxLinear lists the same MSL 2 at 260 °C for this package.

Is the SP491E full duplex or half duplex?

Full duplex. It has separate driver outputs and receiver inputs, so it can send and receive at the same time on a four-wire bus.

RS485 vs RS422: can this chip do both?

Yes. MaxLinear rates the SP491E for RS-485 and RS-422. RS-422 is one driver to several receivers, while RS-485 allows up to 32 nodes on the bus.

What is the difference between SP491EEN and SP491ECN?

Temperature range. EEN is -40 to 85 °C, ECN is 0 to 70 °C. Both are the 14-pin NSOIC.

What is the difference between the SP490E and SP491E?

The SP491E adds driver and receiver enable pins. The SP490E has no enable pins.

How fast is the SP491EEN-L/TR?

Up to 10 Mbps.

Is the SP491E pin compatible with other RS-485 transceivers?
