This is the M6-048 stage assembly removed from a SELA EM2 automated sample preparation system, sold used as a spare part. The EM2 is SELA's automated tool for preparing semiconductor samples for SEM and TEM analysis (TEM sample preparation), cutting the sample down with dry sawing before final thinning in a FIB. The assembly carries a round sample table on a machined base, a Lin Engineering stepper motor drive, a smaller round fixture plate, and a separate aluminum box with a Hamamatsu position-detector (PSD) signal board, all with their cables.
What is marked on the assembly?
A label on the base reads "M6-048". The stepper motor label reads LIN ENGINEERING 417-15-03D 1.20A 092605. The DC-DC converter on the electronics box reads COSEL ZUW6 1215, Made in Japan, 12V input, ±15V 200mA output. The circuit board inside the box is printed HAMAMATSU C9069, Made in Japan, with a sensor outline marked S1880 / S2044.
What does the Hamamatsu C9069 board do?
Hamamatsu lists the C9069 as a DC signal processing circuit for position measurement with a pin-cushion type two-dimensional PSD (position sensitive detector). It runs from a single +12 V supply, sends position data over RS-232C and gives an analog monitor output. The S1880 and S2044 printed on the board are Hamamatsu 2D PSD models. Which PSD is fitted, if any, is not visible in the photos.
How is the stage driven?
The Lin Engineering 417-series stepper (42 mm frame) has a knurled knob on its rear shaft and drives through a black flexible shaft coupling inside an aluminum housing, visible through a window in the housing.
