This is a used DC/DC converter assembly made by Semiconductor Engineering Laboratories Ltd. (SELA), Ver. 1.0: a printed board with 24 V and 12 V terminal blocks, mounted on a converter module and an aluminum base plate. It came out of a SELA EM2 sample preparation system, an automated tool that prepares samples for SEM and TEM analysis in semiconductor failure analysis. The board is printed "Semiconductor Engineering LAboratories Ltd.", "DC/DC CONVERTOR" and "VER. 1.0".
What are the connections?
Terminal block P17 (pins 1 to 4) carries the 24 V side: pin 1 is marked +24V and pin 4 is marked −24V. Terminal block P18 (pins 5 to 9) carries the 12 V side: 5 is +12V, 6 is +S, 7 is TRIM, 8 is −S and 9 is −12V. Red LEDs D1 (24V) and D2 (12V) show that each side is powered. Both green plug-in terminal blocks are fitted, with short wire leads still attached.
What do +S, −S and TRIM do on a DC/DC converter?
The +S and −S sense pins let a DC/DC converter regulate its voltage at the load instead of at its own terminals, which compensates for voltage drop in the power leads. The TRIM pin adjusts the output voltage slightly, usually with a resistor to the positive or negative output.
What is the E123549 marking?
The edge of the board reads "CD-1-94V0 08/01" followed by the UL recognized-component mark and "E123549". This is the board marking under which the item is listed. 94V-0 is the UL flammability rating of the board material.
