This is a lot of 12 Omron E3X-DA11-S digital fiber amplifier units, the standard NPN-output, pre-wired model of the Omron E3X-DA-S series. A fiber amplifier is the electronics half of a fiber optic sensor: it sends red light (635 nm) into a fiber unit, reads the light that comes back, shows the incident level and threshold on its digital display, and switches an NPN open-collector output when an object is detected. The 12 amplifiers in the photos are shown together with fiber units that have stainless steel tips.
What does the marking on the unit say?
The clear cover of each amplifier is printed OMRON E3X-DA11-S. The side print gives the wiring: brown 12 to 24 VDC, blue 0 V, black OUT, and the CE mark.
How does an Omron fiber optic sensor amplifier work?
The amplifier's LED light goes out through one fiber and returns through the other fiber, either across a gap (through-beam) or reflected off the target (reflective). The E3X-DA11-S compares the received light with a threshold set by teaching or manually, and its output switches in Light-ON or Dark-ON mode. Omron lists four response modes: super-high-speed (operate 48 us, reset 50 us), high-speed (250 us), standard (1 ms) and high-resolution (4 ms).
What do I need to know before ordering?
Each unit runs on 12 to 24 VDC and draws 40 mA max. at 24 VDC. The output is NPN open collector, 50 mA max. at 26.4 VDC. Up to 10 amplifiers mounted side by side can use mutual interference prevention. Omron discontinued manufacture of the E3X-DA-S standard models in March 2017, so this lot is a way to keep an existing line running with the same part number.
