The Omron E3X-DA11-N is a pre-wired digital fiber amplifier from Omron's E3X-DA-N series, the standard NPN-output model with a digital incident-level display. This lot contains two used E3X-DA11-N amplifiers (also written E3XDA11N), removed from a Shinko SMART SELOP3 load port. They run on 12 to 24 VDC and use a red LED light source (660 nm). What does the E3X-DA11-N do?
It is the amplifier for a fiber-optic sensor: it drives the fiber unit, displays the received light level as a number, and switches an NPN output when the level crosses the threshold. The threshold is set by teaching or manually. Response time is selectable: 0.25 ms in super-high-speed mode, 1 ms in standard mode and 4 ms in super-long-distance mode. An OFF-delay timer of 0 to 200 ms and Light-ON / Dark-ON switching are built in.
How is it wired?
The amplifier label gives the colour code: brown 12 to 24 VDC, blue 0 V, black output. The output is an NPN open collector rated 50 mA. For a PNP output, the equivalent Omron model is the E3X-DA41-N. Omron announced in its datasheet that manufacture of the E3X-DA11-N would end in March 2017, so a like-for-like spare is the simplest way to keep an existing machine unchanged.
What condition are these amplifiers in?
Used. The photos show both amplifiers with fiber-optic cables fitted: one pair ends in metal sleeve tips and one in an aluminium mounting block. With the cover open, the TEACH and MODE keys and the SET / ADJ / RUN and L / D switches are visible. The load port nameplate (Shinko SMART SELOP3) is shown in the last photo.

Is the E3X-DA11-N NPN or PNP?
NPN open collector, 50 mA. The PNP version of the same amplifier is the E3X-DA41-N.
What is the difference between the E3X-NH11 and the E3X-DA11-N?
Both are Omron NPN fiber amplifiers. The E3X-DA11-N has a numeric digital display of the light level and selectable response times from 0.25 ms; the E3X-NH11 uses LED bar indicators and adds a separate alarm output.
Is the E3X-DA11-N still manufactured?
Omron's E3X-DA-N datasheet states that manufacture of the E3X-DA11-N would be discontinued in March 2017.
