What does the part number mean?
MAX823 is the version with an active-low RESET output, a watchdog input (WDI) and a manual-reset input (MR). The suffix S sets the reset threshold at 2.93 V typical (2.89 to 2.96 V at 25 °C), for 3 V and 3.3 V supplies. E is the -40 to +85 °C range, UK is the 5-pin SOT23 package, and +T is the ordering suffix of this lead-free, tape-and-reel supply (the label is marked Pb-free and the parts come on a reel).
How does a microprocessor supervisory circuit work?
The chip compares VCC with its fixed threshold. Below 2.93 V, RESET goes low and stays low; once VCC is back above the threshold, RESET stays low for another 200 ms typical (140 ms min) so the supply and clock can settle. If the WDI pin sees no edge for 1.6 s typical, the watchdog fires a reset as well. Pulling MR low, for example with a push button, also forces a reset. Per the datasheet, RESET stays a valid logic low down to VCC = 1 V.
