The Lenze EMB9352-E is a 9352 brake chopper from the Lenze 9350 brake unit range, labeled 33.9352-E.1B, rated DC/PE 765 V, Imax 25 A, with 19 kW average and 32 kW peak braking power. What does a brake chopper do, and how is the 9352 different from the 9351?
Lenze's 9350 operating instructions (EDBMB935X) describe two designs: the 9351 brake module, which has a brake resistor inside, and the 9352 brake chopper, which drives an external brake resistor on terminals RB1 and RB2. Both connect to the drive's DC bus on +UG and -UG and are documented for Lenze 8200, 9300 and 8200 vector drives from 15 to 90 kW. Switches S1 and S2 set the switching threshold and S3 selects master or slave for parallel operation.
Which switching threshold should I set?
Lenze lists these thresholds in master mode: 375 V for 230 V mains, 725 V for 400 to 460 V mains, and 765 V for 480 V mains (the default setting, S1 and S2 ON). All brake units connected in parallel on one DC bus must use the same threshold. Check the Lenze instructions for the brake resistor value before you connect one.
