The LAND 804685 Cyclops LER Adaptor is the Long Eye Relief accessory for Land Instruments International (AMETEK Land) Cyclops portable non-contact thermometers. It lets the user see the full field of view, the measurement circle and the internal temperature display while the rear of the instrument is held away from the eye, which is meant for users wearing helmets, goggles or other eye protection. This one is new, in its Land Instruments International box.
How far from the eye can the Cyclops be held?
According to the Cyclops L user guide, the eyepiece can be moved at least 50 mm away from the eye and still show the full field of view, the measurement circle and the temperature display. The magnification of the scene is lower than with the standard eyepiece.
How is the LER adaptor fitted?
It replaces the standard focus-adjustable eyecup. The eyecup holder is removed by taking out 3 × M2 grub screws, the adaptor is inserted into the eyepiece and aligned with the screw holes, and the grub screws are refitted. The adaptor then screws in or out to suit the user, and its rubber cup is used to focus on the graticule circle.
Why does the adaptor have a glass disc?
About 2 mm in from the smaller end there is a glass disc set at a small angle (about 10°) to the optical axis. It is an infrared-absorbing filter, and Land states it is essential for eye safety when viewing very hot targets. Check that it is present before fitting.
What comes in the box?
The photos show the adaptor marked "Cyclops LER Adaptor Pt No 804685" with the LAND logo, a printed user guide titled Long Eye Relief Adaptor for Cyclops Thermometers, a small screwdriver, a small parts bag and a white cap.
