MKS AS11870G-02, the Modbus TCP/IP version of the MKS Communications & Fieldbus Coupler Module, new in its box. The MKS box label reads AS11870G-02, Rev: 03, with code 1422. The module is still sealed in its ESD bag in the pink foam insert. Also searched as AS11870G 02 or MKS Modbus TCP coupler.
What does the AS11870G-02 do?
It sits at the head of a row of MKS Automation Platform I/O slices and talks to them over the L-Bus. Upstream it connects to a PLC or PAC over Modbus TCP/IP, so the slices become distributed I/O. MKS also lists it for standalone use with the MKS Controls Workbench software, for manual control and data logging.
Is it still made?
No. MKS marks the AS11870G-02 as no longer available. The EtherCAT version of the same coupler is the AS11870G-04.
How do I set it up?
MKS Controls Workbench handles configuration, monitoring and diagnostics through the USB OTG or Ethernet port. The coupler is programmed in IEC 61131-3 languages and runs on 24 VDC.

What is the difference between AS11870G-02 and AS11870G-04?
Same coupler hardware; the -02 talks Modbus TCP/IP and the -04 talks EtherCAT.
How does a Modbus TCP fieldbus coupler work?
The PLC reads and writes the coupler's Modbus registers over Ethernet. The coupler maps those registers to the I/O slices clipped next to it, so the PLC sees remote inputs and outputs without wiring them back to the cabinet.
Which software configures it?
MKS Controls Workbench, for device configuration, process monitoring, data storage and diagnostics.
Are I/O slices included?
No. The box holds the coupler module only.
