The Astec MP8-3W-1W-30 is an 800 W modular AC-DC switching power supply from the Astec MP (MVP series) family, built for a single 48 V DC output at 16.5 A. The label gives Astec P/N 73-580-0003 and an input of 100-240 V AC, 13 A max, 50/60/400 Hz. Astec's MP series datasheet lists the MP8-3W-1W-30 as one of its standard 800 W, 48 V models.
How does a modular power supply like the MP8 work?
The MP8 case holds a power-factor-corrected AC input stage and up to six slots for plug-in output modules. Each module code sets an output voltage; in this unit the two W modules are 48 V outputs combined into one 48 V rail (V1 on the label). The datasheet gives an MP8 case size of 2.5 x 7 x 10 in and a 20 A internal input fuse.
Which signals and connectors does it have?
AC input goes to a screw terminal block (N, L, earth). The 48 V output is on bus bars. On the fan end there are DC OK and AC OK LEDs and the J1 control connector, which per Astec carries the input AC OK and global DC OK signals, global inhibit/enable and a 5 V housekeeping output.
