The Siemens 6ES7972-0DA00-0AA0 is a SIMATIC DP RS-485 terminating element that terminates a PROFIBUS DP or MPI network segment, powered from 24 VDC. The unit is marked PROFIBUS TERMINATOR and the Siemens box label reads RS 485-TERMINATOR, SIMATIC. Siemens lists it in its "Active RS 485 terminating element" family. The part number is also written 6ES7 972-0DA00-0AA0 and 6ES79720DA000AA0.
What does a PROFIBUS terminator do?
An RS-485 bus has to be terminated at both ends of each segment so that signals are not reflected back down the cable. Siemens describes this part as an RS-485 terminating resistor for terminating PROFIBUS/MPI networks. It has its own 24 VDC supply input, which is what makes it an active terminating element.
How is it wired?
The front has screw terminals L+, M and PE for the 24 VDC supply and A1, B1 for the PROFIBUS cable, plus a cable clamp bar for the cable shield and a DC 24V indicator window. Per the Siemens datasheet, both the supply and the bus cable use screw terminal blocks.
What do the labels say?
Front: SIEMENS, PROFIBUS TERMINATOR, DC 24V, 6ES7 972-0DA00-0AA0, Made in Germany, CE, N117, FM approved (Cl. I, Div. 2, Gp. A, B, C, D T4A; Cl. I, Zone 2, Gp. IIC, T4), UL listed 3DA1 Ind. Cont. Eq. for Haz. Loc., II 3 G Ex nA II T4, KEMA 02 ATEX 1096X, Ta 0 °C to +60 °C. Box label: 1P 6ES7 972-0DA00-0AA0, E-Stand (version) 04, FS 04, Siemens AG, DE-92224 Amberg.
What condition is it in?
New, in the original Siemens box with the product information sheet (EWA 3NEB 812 6727-10a).
