How does this servo valve work?
The first stage is a flapper/nozzle pilot driven by a dry torque motor. A current in the torque motor tilts the flapper between two nozzles, and the pressure difference this creates shifts the second-stage control spool. A mechanical feedback spring links the spool back to the torque motor, so the spool stroke is proportional to the input current from the servo amplifier.

Decoded with the Rexroth data sheet RA 29 586 for series 4X: 4WS2E = 2-stage servo valve for separate electronics, M = mechanical feedback, 10 = size 10, 45 = series 45 (4X), 5 = 5 L/min (1.3 GPM) nominal flow at 70 bar valve pressure drop, 3 = coil no. 3 (7.5 mA / 200 Ω per coil), ET = internally piloted, internally drained, 315 = pilot pressure range for mechanical feedback, 10 to 315 bar, K8 = electrical socket size 14S-2S, A = spool overlap 0.5 to 1.5% positive, M = NBR seals for mineral oil. The trailing -10 and the A018 marking are not explained in the data sheet.
What does it mount on and what drives it?
The valve mounts on the standard ISO 4401-5 / NFPA D05 size 10 interface; the port face is engraved T, X1, A, P, B, T. It needs a separate servo amplifier card; for mechanical feedback Rexroth names the SR 2 or VT 1600 amplifier. The photos show a round mating plug with a cable clamp fitted on the socket.
