This is a lot of 5 ifm efector KG5034 capacitive proximity sensors, type KG-3008-FNKG/NI: M18 plastic-threaded sensors with an adjustable 2.5 to 8 mm sensing range and an NPN switching output for 10 to 36 V DC. The type code is also written KG-3008-FNKG/N1 and, with the 5 m cable, KG-3008-FNKG/NI/5M. Each sensor has a push-button for setting the sensitivity, yellow and green LEDs, and a 3-wire cable (BN, BK, BU).
How does a capacitive proximity sensor work?
The sensor face forms one plate of a capacitor. When an object comes near, the capacitance changes and the output switches. Unlike an inductive sensor, which only sees metal, a capacitive sensor also detects non-metallic materials such as plastic, wood, glass, liquids and granulates, so it is often used for level and presence detection.
What does the sensor marking say?
KG5034, KG-3008-FNKG/NI, s: 8 mm nf, adjustable, IP65, the 3-wire diagram BN / BK output / BU, an "adjustment: press" arrow to the button, I: 250 mA, CE and the efector name. "nf" means non-flush mounting.
How is the output wired?
According to the ifm data sheet the output is NPN, and the function is chosen by the supply polarity: brown to L+ and blue to L- gives a normally open output; blue to L+ and brown to L- gives normally closed. The load goes between the black wire and L+. The output carries 200 mA continuous (250 mA at 0 to 35 °C) and is short-circuit and overload protected.
