The DECTRIS MYTHEN2 R 1D is a one-dimensional, single-photon counting silicon strip X-ray detector module made for laboratory X-ray diffraction (XRD), offered here as module SN1106 with its USB cable. DECTRIS lists the MYTHEN2 R 1D for portable diffractometers, residual stress measurement and benchtop XRD systems. It is the smaller member of the MYTHEN2 R laboratory family, often searched as Dectris MYTHEN2, MYTHEN detector or 1D detector for XRD.
How does a photon counting detector work?
Each silicon strip has its own counter, and every X-ray photon that deposits energy above a set threshold is counted as one event. Because photons are counted rather than integrated, DECTRIS notes there is no dark current and no readout noise in the data.
What is the difference between the MYTHEN2 R 1D and the R 1K?
Both use 50 µm wide silicon strips and read out at up to 100 Hz. The R 1D has 640 strips and a 32 mm wide active area in a 36 x 62 x 22 mm module; the R 1K has 1,280 strips, a 64 mm wide active area and a 70 x 62 x 22 mm module.
What is on the unit?
The front reads DECTRIS MYTHEN2 R 1D. The rear label shows serial number SN1106, the CE mark, a warning triangle and Input +12 V, 2 W. The black cable has a thumbscrew connector at the module end, a ferrite core and a USB Type-A plug.
What condition is it in?
Used. In the photos the entrance window slot on the front is covered with a strip of metallic foil tape. The module housing shows light wear.

Questions about this part
What is the DECTRIS MYTHEN2 R 1D used for?
It is a laboratory 1D X-ray detector. DECTRIS lists it for portable diffractometers, residual stress measurement and benchtop XRD systems.
How does a photon counting detector work?
Each strip counts individual X-ray photons above an energy threshold. Counting rather than integrating charge means no dark current and no readout noise, per DECTRIS.
What is the difference between MYTHEN2 R 1D and R 1K?
The R 1D has 640 strips and a 32 mm wide active area; the R 1K has 1,280 strips and a 64 mm wide active area. Both use 50 µm strips and run at up to 100 Hz.
What energy range does it cover?
DECTRIS gives 4–40 keV with the 320 µm silicon sensor and 6.6–40 keV with the 450 µm sensor. The sensor thickness of this unit is not marked on the visible labels.
What power does it need?
The rear label reads Input +12 V, 2 W.
Is a cable included?
Yes. The photos show the module with a black cable that has a thumbscrew connector at the module end, a ferrite core and a USB Type-A plug.
What condition is it in?
Used. The front entrance window slot is covered with metallic foil tape in the photos.
