CM40 PT100 temperature transmitter on a stainless probe, scaled 0 to 300 °C, with a 4-20mA output. The label on the head neck reads CM40, Input PT100, Range 0...300C, Output 4-20mA, Supple (sic) 12...36VDC. The transmitter puck sits inside the connection head, so this is a complete PT100 sensor with transmitter, ready to wire into a 4-20mA loop. No maker name on any part.
How does a PT100 temperature transmitter work?
A PT100 is a platinum resistance sensor that reads 100 ohms at 0 °C, and its resistance rises with temperature. The transmitter in the head converts that resistance into a loop current: 4mA at 0 °C and 20mA at 300 °C on this unit. Sending current instead of resistance keeps long cable runs from adding error.
What hardware comes with it?
A round connection head with a threaded cover, one cable entry closed with a hex plug on a ball chain, and a beige CM40 PT100 transmitter puck inside. Below the head is a stainless sheath with a sliding compression fitting stamped 316SS and a male tapered thread, so insertion depth can be set on site.
What does PT100 4-20mA wiring need?
A 12 to 36 VDC supply in series with your PLC input or meter. The label gives no wiring diagram, so open the head and check the terminal marks on the puck before connecting.
