LT6106IS5#TRMPBF on a 500-piece mini reel, date code 2119. Analog Devices (ex Linear Technology) high side current sense amplifier. 36 V, 250 µV max offset, 5-lead TSOT-23. Assembled in Malaysia, diffused in the USA.

How does the LT6106 sense current?

It reads the small voltage across a shunt resistor on the high side of the supply. It turns that voltage into an output current, which one resistor to ground turns back into a voltage. So a few millivolts riding on up to 36 V become a ground-referenced signal your ADC can read. Two resistors set the gain, with better than 1% accuracy.

Why does a low offset matter?

With 250 µV max offset and 40 nA max bias current, you can use a small shunt. Less shunt means less power lost in it. Typical uses from the datasheet: battery monitoring, motor control, lamp monitoring and overcurrent detection.

What does #TRMPBF mean?

TRM is Linear's mini tape and reel, 500 pieces. PBF is the lead-free finish. The S5 is the 5-lead TSOT-23 (ThinSOT, 1 mm high). The reel label reads (Q) 500, (9D) 2119, lot AU49234.18, MSL 1, peak 260°C, e3, box 6 of 10.

High side vs low side current sensing: which is the LT6106?

High side. The shunt sits between the supply and the load, so the load keeps its ground.

How do I set the gain?

With two external resistors: one at the input, one from the output to ground.

What is the difference between LT6106CS5, LT6106IS5 and LT6106HS5?

Same amplifier and package, different temperature grade. C is 0 to 70°C and H is -40 to 125°C per the datasheet. This reel is the I grade.

Does the reel need baking before reflow?

No. The label states MSL 1, peak 260°C.
