Konzept SDM 225, a constant voltage transformer (CVT) rated 225 VA at 220 V out. Made by KONZEPT Energietechnik GmbH in Eutin, Germany, and labelled Spannungs-Konstanthalter. It holds the output within ±1.5% while the mains swings from -20% to +10%. New, shipped with Konzept's printed technical directions. Also searched as SDM225 and SDM-225.
Which voltages does the SDM 225 take and give?
Primary 110 V or 220 V, 50/60 Hz. Secondary 110 V at 220 VA or 220 V at 225 VA, switchable. Konzept's sheet says input and output can be selected independently of each other. The output frequency always follows the input, so it does not convert 50 Hz to 60 Hz.
How does a constant voltage transformer work?
It is a ferroresonant transformer: the iron core runs in magnetic saturation, with capacitors on the core winding, so the output barely follows changes on the input. Konzept adds that the SDM damps mains interference by about 60 dB, isolates the output galvanically and limits short-circuit current to about twice the rated current. A thermal cut-out in the winding protects the SDM 225 against overload.
What should I check before wiring it in?
The output is set for resistive loads (power factor 1). An inductive load pulls the output down and a capacitive load pushes it up, so correct the power factor towards 1 where you can. The core runs hot by design, up to about 90 °C at 40 °C ambient: leave 10 cm to the wall and 15 cm between two units. A 1% rise in frequency lifts the output about 1.4%.

Questions about this part
Can I feed it 115 V and take 230 V out?
Yes. Konzept states that input and output voltage on the Series SDM are selected independently: 110 V or 220 V in, 110 V or 220 V out.
What fuse goes in front of the SDM 225?
A slow-blow primary fuse: Konzept recommends 8 A at 115 VAC or 4 A at 230 VAC. Switch-on can draw a short current surge.
What is the working principle of a constant voltage transformer?
Ferroresonance. The core is driven into magnetic saturation with capacitors on the winding, so the secondary stays near its set value; on the SDM 225 that is ±1.5% for input from -20% to +10%.
How much power can it deliver at 110 V output?
The nameplate gives 220 VA at 110 V and 225 VA at 220 V. Konzept's table lists 200 VA at 115 VAC output.
Does it convert frequency?
No. The output frequency is always the same as the input frequency.
Is the Konzept documentation included?
The photos show the Konzept technical directions sheet for the Series SDM, in German and English, with the dimension and power tables.
