Advantech ADAM-4571, new in open box, with the accessories still bagged. One Ethernet port in, one RS-232/422/485 serial port out: the front reads 1-port Ethernet to RS-232/422/485 Data Gateway. It runs on 10 to 30 VDC through the green two-pin terminal block.
What comes in the set?
The ADAM-4571 module, a beige serial cable from an RJ45 plug to a DB9, a small DB9 adapter (bag tag 1654909900), a blue mounting plate, two brass standoffs, a sheet of IP address labels and the Advantech INET Series Driver Utility CD V1.7 (2063001707). The back label carries FCC, CE and RoHS marks, made in Taiwan.
Why does Port1 have an RJ45 jack and not a DB9?
This is an earlier hardware version. On this unit the serial port is an RJ45-style jack, and the included cable takes it to DB9. Advantech's current data sheet shows a DB9 male on the ADAM-4571, so if you are replacing a newer unit, the cable here makes up the difference.
Is the ADAM-4571 isolated?
The Ethernet side has 1.5 kV magnetic isolation, per Advantech. The serial lines have 15 kV ESD protection. The data sheet does not list galvanic isolation on the serial port.

What does a serial device server do?
It puts a serial device on the network. Your PC or PLC talks to the ADAM-4571 over Ethernet, and the module passes the data to and from the RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485 port.
ADAM-4571 or ADAM-4571L: what is the difference?
The ADAM-4571 port does RS-232, RS-422 and RS-485. The ADAM-4571L is RS-232 only. This one is the ADAM-4571.
Can it work as an Ethernet to RS485 converter for Modbus devices?
It carries RS-485 data over TCP or UDP. Advantech's data sheet lists no Modbus gateway function, so Modbus RTU frames pass through as raw serial data.
Is there configuration software for the ADAM 4571?
The set includes the Advantech INET Series Driver Utility CD V1.7. Advantech also lists Windows utility, Telnet console and web browser configuration.
What power supply does it need?
10 to 30 VDC on the +Vs and GND terminals, 2.5 W.
