This is a Sharplan glass laser tube for the Sharplan 1040, a CO2 surgical laser, supplied in its case with a Lumenis accepted tag reading AS2452000, "PAKING, TUBE 1040 TRIODE". Sharplan was the laser brand of Laser Industries Ltd., later part of Lumenis. The tube glass is marked "SHARPLAN GLASS WORKSHOP". Condition: used.
What is the Sharplan 1040?
The FDA 510(k) database lists the "SHARPLAN 1040 CO/2 SURGICAL LASER" (K850628, Laser Industries Ltd., cleared 1985). This listing is a spare tube only, not a laser system.
What is in the photos?
A long clear glass tube with a black end mount at each end, glass side arms with red protective caps near both ends, red high-voltage leads with white connectors labeled J-10 and J-11, a green wire, and black sleeved leads to the electrode arms. The red lead is printed AWM 3239, 150C, 40KVDC. The tube sits in foam inside a cardboard case with a handle, two straps and a FRAGILE label.
How does a CO2 laser tube work?
In general, a high voltage across electrodes in the tube excites a gas mixture containing carbon dioxide, and mirrors at the tube ends turn that discharge into a laser beam at about 10.6 µm. The exact gas fill, optics and electrical ratings of this tube are not stated on its labels.
