This is a used lot of Keyence FS-V11 and FS-V12 digital fiber optic sensor amplifiers: the FS-V11 is the NPN main unit with its own power cable, and the FS-V12 is the NPN 1-line expansion unit that gangs onto it. A handwritten note in the photos reads "FS-V12 x14, FS-V11 x12". The amplifiers are from the Keyence FS-V10 series, each with a digital display, SET button, up/down keys and MODE button. Fiber units with mounting brackets and connection cables are also shown in the photos.
What is the difference between the FS-V11 and the FS-V12?
The FS-V11 is the main unit: its label shows a brown (12-24 V DC), blue (0 V) and black (output) cable. The FS-V12 label lists only a black output wire; it attaches to a main unit as an expansion unit, and its side connector is visible in the photos. Keyence states that up to 16 expansion units can be connected to one main unit, a total of 17 units.
How does a fiber optic sensor amplifier work?
The amplifier sends red LED light down a fiber unit and measures how much light comes back or gets through. When the received light crosses the threshold set with the SET button, the NPN output switches. The display shows the received light level, and the response time can be set to FINE (250 µs), TURBO (500 µs) or SUPER TURBO (1 ms).
What do the labels say?
FS-V11: "BROWN 12-24V DC Class2, BLUE 0V, BLACK OUT (40V 100mA)", CE, KEYENCE CORPORATION. FS-V12: "BLACK OUT", CE. The rear label reads KEYENCE CORPORATION, Made in Japan, with a serial number. Each amplifier also carries a white customer position tag (PH798, PH799, PH883, PH893 and others).
Is the FS-V11 still made?
No. Keyence lists the FS-V11 and FS-V12 as discontinued and names the FS-N40 series as the recommended replacement.
