This is a lot of five used Allen-Bradley Guardmaster 440N-S32014 Sipha S11 coded sensors: magnetic, non-contact safety interlock switches in a red molded ABS housing with 1 N.C. and 1 N.O. safety contacts and a 3 m cable. Sipha sensors are used on machine guard doors: the sensor detects its coded actuator without physical contact, and a Sipha control unit monitors the circuit. Rockwell lists the part as "Switch & Actuator", but the photos show five sensors with cables only; actuators are not shown.
What is printed on the sensors?
The front reads Allen-Bradley Guardmaster SIPHA CODED SENSOR, EN 1088, VDE 0660-209, EN 954-1, TÜV NORD, IP 67, Made in the Dominican Rep. The end label reads 440N-S32014, series B, S11. A bag label in the photos reads Bulletin 440N, Guardmaster SIPHA 3M CABLE NON-CONTACT SWITCH, CAT 440N-S32014, SER B, date 2005.
How does a Sipha non-contact safety switch work?
The sensor contains magnetically operated contacts that respond only to the coded magnet arrangement of its actuator. When the guard closes and the actuator comes within the sensing distance (5 mm make, 11 mm break for the S11), the contacts change state. Rockwell states that Sipha sensors must be connected to a Sipha control unit, which provides the monitoring circuitry.
How are the cables terminated?
Each sensor has a black cable. In the photos, four of the cables end in a white plug-in connector and one ends in open wire ends; some cables carry white marker sleeves. Rockwell specifies the cable as 4-wire, 0.54 mm² (20 AWG), PVC jacket, 4 mm OD.
