The Newport TRA6CC is a miniature motorized linear actuator with a closed-loop DC servo motor and 6 mm of travel. Newport designs the TRA series to replace a manual micrometer drive of the same form, and recommends the TRA6 for its 561 Series linear stages and 481 and RS65 rotation stages. This unit (S/N B09 4517) has its fixed cable ending in a 25-pin D-sub connector marked "ESP Compatible".
How does a DC servo motorized actuator work?
The DC servo motor (UE10MCC) turns a lead screw that moves the actuator tip in and out. A rotary encoder on the motor, 64 counts per revolution, reports the position back to the controller, which closes the servo loop. Optical limit switches at both ends stop the motion at the ends of the 6 mm stroke and serve as the home reference.
